Iona ties for 2nd place in the Scottish University Championships.

The 2013 Scottish Student Golf Championship at Moray Golf Club, Lossiemouth there was a nail-biting climax to the Ladies Championship.
The morning round for the ladies saw the overnight lead of Georgia Gilling closed to one shot, from playing partner Renfrewshire's Iona Stephen (St Andrews).
During the afternoon round, the lead between these players and St Andrews Captain, Gabrielle MacDonald, changed hands a number of times and, standing on the eigteenth tee, all was to play for.
A final hole bogey was enough for Lossie rookie Georgia, pictured below, to lift the trophy with a score of 76, 72, 78, 82 = 308, with Gabrielle and Iona tying on scores of 311.
In the Ladies Team Championship, Iona and Gabrielle were joined by Gemma Bradbury and Maranda Brain to take the prize of leading team.

JUNIOR SENIOR MATCH AT ERSKINE GOLF CLUB

The Junior v Senior Match Teams
A very cold but sunny day today (Sunday 31st March) at Erskine for the first in a series of Junior/Senior Matches.
The first 9 holes were foursomes play and the back 9 was four ball better ball.
The teams were mixed in order that we could all learn from each other. There was some wonderful golf played by both Seniors and Juniors with very evenly matched sides as it was a very friendly draw.
Many thanks to all the seniors who played at the last minute to make up the numbers and help out with your support of junior girls golf.
We have some wonderfully talented young girls in Renfrewshire so any encouragement is really appreciated. Many thanks also to Erskine Golf Club for allowing us courtesy of the course when Ranfurly Castle was still in the grip of the winter snow.

JINTY AND LESLEY WIN THE COUNTY WINTER FOURSOMES FINAL

REPORT FROM JENNIFER GRAHAM

Jinty and Lesley Winners with Thea and Morag
Just to let you know I had the privilege of refereeing the Haggs Castle GC today.
The final was between Jinty Rodger and Lesley Forsyth of Williamwood and Morag Little and Thea Morgan of Whitecraigs.
It was a super day weather wise although bitterly cold.
The match was played in the best spirit and for 12 holes there was no more than 1 hole in the match.
After 9 holes the match was all square.
At the 14th hole Jinty and Lesley were 3 up. The 15th was won by Morag and Thea , the 16th all square making Jinty and Lesley dormie 2
Two good drives at the 17th with Morag's fabulous second shot just catching the bunker.. Jinty's second shot was superb just short of the green. Thea's shot from the bunker was excellent but so was Lesley's chip. The hole was halved giving Jinty and Lesley a 2/1 victory.
Supporters from Whitecraigs and Williamwood followed the match but the cold got to them and at the end only President Eileen Gibb, Past Captain Aileen Wilson were the only spectators left .
Jinty and Lesley were worthy winners but Morag and Thea will definitely be winners soon.
Eileen Gibb kindly presented the salvers to the two winners.

Message from Sheila Robson from Whitecraigs:
I  would like to rectify  Jennifer’s statement that the cold got to us spectators during the Foursomes final at Haggs on Friday.    Not at all the case, Whitecraigs ladies are made of sterner stuff than letting a little cold interfere while supporting their friends!     I was looking after my granddaughter in the afternoon  and Jennifer Macgregor had to shop as she had been on Jury Duty during the week.
It was a shame that the Final took place on Good Friday when quite a few spectators would be on holiday.   It was a good match to watch with Haggs in very good condition given our foul weather.    We managed to watch till the 12th hole then had to head off.     Morag and Thea must have missed our support!

RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY DINNER SUCCESS

Tracy Masterton, Carol Whyte, Gillian Kyle, Eileen Gibb and Beth Paterson

The Bi-Annual dinner was held last night (Wednesday 20th March) at Haggs Castle Golf Club
Fifty-Nine ladies enjoyed a lovely meal and a chance to catch up with friends before the start of the golf season. It was decided not to have a Speaker this year and this went down well as the noise level of the chatter must have been heard in Ayrshire, Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire & Argyll – and beyond!
We held a raffle and raised the terrific amount of £437 which will go towards our funds and helping in our efforts to promote County golf.

Susan wins the Spa Day
Sandra wins the Fourball

I would like to thank all the ladies who donated raffle prizes, Eve Spa at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley for a fantastic Spa Day voucher and Pollok Golf Club for donating a four ball golf game. It was clear that Susan Reid and Sandra Littlejohn were delighted to be the “Big Prize” winners!!
Equally delighted were the winners of bottles and plants!!
Organisation of such an event does not just happen and I would like to thank our Secretary Jean Irvine for a fantastic job, she does a huge amount of work for the County and is efficiency personified!!
Thanks are also due to Sandra Littlejohn and Jinty Roger who were the “Raffle Girls”, the ‘raffle runners’ at each table; Linda McDougall from Greenock, June Lockhart from Gleddoch and Marion Stewart from Kilmacolm. They delivered the prizes in glorious fashion!!
The fastest ‘raffle runner’ was Webmaster Carol Fell who zoomed around the tables with her camera getting pictures of the prizewinners

 Well done ladies.

Thanks also to Past Captain Trish who gave a vote of thanks at the end of the Dinner.
